The Tutorial
Let's Make Some Magic ✨
Color Your Fondant
Knead your fondant until it's soft and pliable. Add a small amount of gel food coloring and work it in until you get an even color. Think about your grad's school colors — this is such a fun personal touch! Keep a separate piece white or ivory for a two-tone look.
Roll It Out Nice & Even
Lightly dust your non-stick mat with cornstarch or powdered sugar to prevent sticking. Roll your fondant out to about 3–4mm thick — roughly the thickness of two stacked pennies. Keep it even all the way across so your toppers come out clean and consistent.
Cut Out Your Shapes
Press the cutter portion of your CCC Set firmly and evenly into the fondant. Give it a slight wiggle if needed, then lift straight up. Repeat across the fondant to get as many pieces as you need. Gather and re-roll scraps to use up every bit!
Add the Detail with the Debosser
This is where the magic happens! Place the debosser piece directly on top of your cut shape and press down firmly and evenly. The debosser stamps in all the beautiful detail — the bear's cap and gown, the diploma ribbon, the hat's tassel, the stack of books, and the "Congrats Grad!" lettering. Lift straight up and admire your work!
Let Them Dry (Be Patient! ⏰)
Transfer your toppers to a flat surface or foam drying pad and let them dry for at least 4–6 hours, or overnight for best results. They'll firm up beautifully and be so much easier to handle and decorate once dry. If you used gumpaste, they'll dry even harder — great for a more polished, durable topper.
Paint & Add Finishing Touches 🎨
Once dry, this is where you can really have fun! Use a fine paintbrush with edible paint or lustre dust mixed with a tiny bit of alcohol or lemon extract to paint in the debossed details. A touch of gold lustre dust on the diploma or hat tassel looks absolutely stunning. You can also use an edible gold marker to trace the outlines.
Attach to Your Cookies!
Your cookies can be already be iced with royal icing or you can apply the decorated fondant cut out directly to the plain sugar cookie. While the base is still slightly tacky, place your toppers on and gently press. If the base is fully dry, use a tiny dab of piping gel or water on the back of the topper to glue it down. These would also work well on chocolate covered cookies or cupcakes!
That's it — you're done! Stand back and appreciate how amazing these look! 🎉
